From bad to worse, we've all experienced it, so why are se surprised that when we obey God things don't instantly get better. It did happen for Moses, and more importantly obedience to God did make things instantly better for Christ.

As Moses is meeting with God the Israelites are rebelliously crafting their own gods. Their desire to control their circumstance led them to blatant idolatry. Their only hope is the intercession of Moses. Sadly, Moses offering himself in their place was insufficient. What they needed, as us, is a greater intercessor than Moses.
The account of God's saving work for the Israelites demonstrates he is a God of great salvation. Their salvation foreshadows the great salvation we receive through the true Israel, Jesus Christ.
