Sermon by Pastor Casey McCall (Ashland Community Church)

“The ordinate condition of the affections in which every object is accorded that kind of
degree of love which is appropriate to it” (C.S. Lewis).
The Aligned Heart (1:7; 9:10)
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge” (1:7).
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (9:10).
“But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared” (Ps 130:4).
The Only Appropriate Obsession (4:20-22)
The Ordered Life (4:23-27)
“A just and holy life requires one to love things in the right order so that you do not love
what is not to be loved, or fail to love what is to be loved, or have a greater love for what
should be loved less, or an equal love for things that should be loved less or more or a
lesser or greater love for things that should be loved equally” (Augustine).
There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him:
A 1 —haughty eyes
   B 1 —a lying tongue
C 1 —and hands that shed innocent blood
D—a heart that devises wicked plans
C 2 —feet that make haste to run to evil
B 2 —a false witness who breathes out lies
A 2 —and one who sows discord among brothers (Prov. 6:16-19).
